Tara Jacobs: Governor’s Council, District 8

Voice of Western Mass: Equity, Inclusion, Accountability and Social Justice for all

Tara Jacobs

I am running to bring the voice of all of Western Massachusetts to the Governor’s Council, and the State House, with a focus on dismantling systemic injustice throughout our state.

I stand for equity:  social, racial, gender, geographical, economic, and environmental equity must factor into the equation of every decision that the Governor’s Council is called upon to make.

I stand for accountability and transparency:  the work of the Governor’s Council needs to be made visible to all; and the voices of citizens and their families, on either side of the judicial bench, must be heard and acted upon.

I am the only woman, the only non-lawyer, and the only resident of Berkshire County in the Democratic primary.  I believe I am the best choice to represent all the diverse voices of Western Massachusetts–from the Berkshires, to the Hill Towns, the Pioneer Valley, Greater Springfield, and the newest part of District 8, the North Quabbin towns in Worcester County–in the important work done by the Council.

I attended Simon’s Rock College of Bard in Great Barrington, and I graduated from Tufts University.  I earned an Masters degree in Business Administration  from New York University.  For the last six years, I have been serving my community as an elected member of the North Adams School Committee and the chair of the Trustees of the North Adams Public Library.  I have also served on the Berkshire County Commission on the Status of Women, the Northern Berkshire Local Cultural Council, and I am currently the Chair of the North Adams Democratic City Committee.  I have the education, the experience, and the relationships on Beacon Hill that are needed to be a powerful advocate for our District.

If you’d like to learn more about what the Governor’s Council is, the important work it does, and why I should represent our District on it, I’ve posted some informational videos on our Media Gallery page.

I’m asking for your support and help in getting this message out across all of District 8, which spans ALL of Western Massachusetts including Berkshire, Hampshire, Hampden and Franklin counties.  Please consider lending your support by donating, joining our campaign, and voting for me on the Democratic Primary ballot on September 6th, 2022.

I’m thrilled to announce I’ve received the endorsement of the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus!  Click through to our news page for details!
